The Emmanuel Baptist Church was organized in January 1973 under the visionary leadership of the REV. L. K. CURRY.
With 10 charter members, this congregation grew within a year to over 700 members. The church was first located in Morgan Park High School in Chicago. After 50 weeks worshipping in the school auditorium, Pastor Curry was lead to the church's present location at 8301 South Damen Avenue, Chicago, IL.
The church purchased the facility from the Chicago First Church of the Nazarene that relocated to Lamont, IL. On the 2nd Sunday in January 1974, the church marched into this facility with over 1,000 person in attendance.
It was the dream of Pastor Curry and Sis. Dorothy Curry to establish a Christian Elementary School to develop the next generation of Christian Leaders.
In 1975, the EMMANUEL CHRISTIAN SCHOOL was established and is serving as a learning and training center for children in the Chicago area. Our church's mission is to develop children and young people to take their place in leadership in the churches and communities of the Chicago area and the world.
Come join us as we go to every corner of the world!
